Before working with Tanya I was suffering from back/neck pain due to a herniated disk. I LOVE to work out. However, I was becoming afraid of certain workouts because of the pain. I also had NO idea how to train with weights. I absolutely stayed away from weights because I thought that this would aggravate my neck/back.
A few years ago, I worked with Tanya for only four short weeks. However, I learned so much in such a short period of time.
Tanya taught me how to train my body in different ways besides the usual cardio and occasional crunches. Tanya taught me how to use bands, weights, machines, stability balls, foam rollers and much more. She even taught me basic activities such as how to personalize the weight on the machine to best suite my needs.
Most importantly, Tanya showed me that if one exercise was aggravating my neck or back, there is always an alternative technique to work the same muscle group. Many of my coaches in the past taught me to “work through the pain”. However, Tanya taught me to CAREFULLY listen to my body. Not only did she teach me to listen to my body, but she insisted that I ACT on what my body is telling me. She taught me that what my body wants on one day may be different than what my body wants the next day.
Learning to listen to my body has affected me in all other areas of my life. I am the type of person to push my body past its limits, which is not always beneficial. After working with Tanya, I am listening to my body more carefully. For example, if I need sleep I give my body the rest it needs. If I need to get out of the office to take a walk, I do so without guilt. Tanya has helped me to realize that I MUST take care of myself, not only physically but MENTALLY (most importantly).
